WOTE LALINN LA

Homme de la parole, Alin Légarès est conteur mais aussi auteur, comédien, plasticien et musicien. Son art oratoire, présent à chaque rencontre est basé sur une acuité aiguë et poétique de la politique des mots, des gestes et des actes. Doté d’une longue expérience de voyage entre les arts, il manie la dérision et le pas de coté comme personne, tandis qu’une force de vie puissante irrigue son inventivité et son jeu d’acteur.
Nous avons proposé à Alin de réaliser un film avec nous, en l’invitant à produire un dialogue avec l’invisible devant un feu, la nuit. Alin a écrit le texte "Wotè lalinn la" et le porte devant la caméra d’une façon magistrale, une nuit de pleine lune.

Le conte "Wotè lalinn la", écrit et interprété par Alin Légarès exprime une révolte qui longe les côtes accidentées de la Martinique d’hier et d’aujourd’hui. C’est un chant créole qui pleure le départ de la lune et invective celles et ceux qui l’ont laissé filer. On entend la misère se décoller de la peau des hommes et des femmes, écorchant toujours les mêmes corps de Tetilyen, Anastasi, Ti Georges. C’est au nom de ces forçats du travail, exploités et exclus de la société coloniale qu’à la nuit tombée, l’homme est assis là, seul. Devant son coco-neg, avec sa cuillère de bois, il remue la soupe quand l’inspiration des mots frappe la nuit. Le visage éclairé par le feu, Alin entonne son chant : « Les amis, regardez monter la lune... Au fur et à mesure qu’elle monte la misère sur les nègres grandit ». Si l’histoire se referme par la fin tragique de Ti Georges, la lune réapparaît toujours, donnant aux espoirs aveugles la lumière du renouveau.

Synopsis : A man sitting alone at night in front of his coco-neg, speaks to the invisible...

The tale "WOTÈ LALINN LA" (The Height of the Moon) is a Creole song. Written and performed by Alin Légarès for our camera, it expresses a revolt that runs along the rugged coasts of Martinique, both past and present.

The tale "Wotè lalinn la", written and performed by Alin Légarès, expresses a revolt that runs along the rugged coasts of Martinique, past and present. It is a Creole song that mourns the departure of the moon and inveighs against those who let it slip away. We hear the misery peeling from the skin of men and women, always flaying the same bodies of Tetilyen, Anastasi, Ti Georges. It is in the name of these forced laborers, exploited and excluded from colonial society, that at nightfall, the man sits there, alone. In front of his coco-neg, with his wooden spoon, he stirs the soup when the inspiration for the words strikes at night. His face lit by the fire, Alin intones his song: "Friends, watch the moon rise... As it rises, the misery on the Negroes grows." If the story closes with the tragic end of Ti Georges, the moon always reappears, giving blind hopes the light of renewal.
