Third video of Javanese trilogy, Nights' stories, The Return of Cebolang, is a video that explores the issue of the confusion between reality and our fictions. Shot in Saint-Denis (93) and Java, the video was produced in part with residents invited to participate in a project sound collection dream narratives. In the video, these stories combined with the unique history of a resident, establish a direct relationship between the unconscious, imagination and memory. The common thread of the first episode is a character from the Book of Centhini called Cebolang. It is staged in volcanic landscapes. These give the video a telluric dimension and summon the poetic force of nature. Cebolang leads us from one dream to another, towards so many mythologies of the intimate that end up fitting into each other to form the vivid portrait of a community of dreamers. In the video, the last story told is very real, about a man who returns to Saint-Denis after a long absence. Like Cebolang back home, the man returns to a city he no longer recognizes. It metamorphosed on a journey that might just be a dream like reality itself ...
